Wordless

In school
we carried dictionary
to learn new words,
their meanings
and use them to 'make sentences'.

In school library
Magazine 'Competition Success Review'-
had an essay titled
'Words give wings to ideas'.

I was happy to learn
new words and say them
to whoever came my way.

Growing up has taught
words are not enough and absolute.

At times
I fail to put words to order
breathless sentences I frame
but the magic
Words remain in complete coherence with brain -
orderless and deranged.

Words remain euphemism
for what I feel.
Words reduce me.
Words fail me.
Words make me vulnerable.

To be sane again
I run away from words
And sit
Wordless.

Extraordinary caregivers

Photo: Chris Hinn "Several years into my practice as a physician at my own private clinic, my father was diagnosed with a chronic illness. I could not afford the treatment or the medicines. I had a hard time coping up with the rising cost. So, hoping that government subsidies will be able to help my situation, I applied to join the public health sector. The whole ordeal really made me reflect my role as a doctor, and the patients I should really be serving,” recalled Dr Rajesh Bhadoria.   Dr Rajesh is the officer in charge at the District Drug Warehouse (DDW) in Badi, Udaipur. He oversees the flag bearer DDW branch of Rajasthan’s free medicine scheme in the region. For the last five years, he and his team have been making sure that benefits of the free medicine scheme reach the people of Udaipur fully. The DDW is located about fifteen kilometers away from the main city of Udaipur, laced with vast and fresh water lakes of Fateh Sagar and Pichola along the way. ...

Nightingale got no prize at the poultry show

Einstien,Twain,Edison were born out of class, before the text proceeds , I would like to say here 'class' doesn’t mean the structure with four walls, one door, two windows, one teacher, books and the pack of chained students. Here class is the niche of brilliance, freedom, discovery, imagination and invention. I wish to have education system that forges humans with brain and not machines with grades. As a student .I always wondered, how one can go about saying two plus two equals to four? Without anyone questioning why? Just because our course book said so. Why in history "dates and events” were asked? When no one taught us the resemblance to the days which we live in. Why for learning anything new, we need old books instead of new ideas? Why make notes in class, when the brain is blank and ink in copy left no hammer on thinking? Why teachers ask us to learn by heart, while it is the mind that is required to do so.? Even Winston Churchill had a dig at his tea...

The hostel question.

‘Humme samman nahi samanata chahiye This phrase echoed in my head, on my way to my hostel, after attending the screening of ‘In her words’ a film by Annie Zaidi on women writing in India and discussion ‘being woman writing woman’. I was accompanied by one of my juniors whose hostel deadline was 9:00 pm. It was around 9:30 pm. No sooner had we got off from the auto than she rushed to her hostel. It’s been a month since Jamia Millia Islamia has been in news for its recent girls’ hostel diktaks. Letter that lead to this, said girls would no longer have their late nights, which girls were permitted before –though the number was laughingly two. A few of my friend stay in Jamia Hostel and seeing them I know how difficult it is to live there. They give you good food, washing machine and security but freedom. What pushed me to type this was my own tryst with university hostel. I am not a resident of jamia Hostel and I am extremely glad about the fact. But this feeling was not the s...
