Indiana:An Alternative Present..

Disclaimer: This piece of fiction is based on real characters of real life; their portrayal is fictional though but true to the cause of writing world. And it takes on religion and its hypocrisies.

Far from regular ruling politics, there is kingdom devoid of any banal thought. The kingdom of the king Libertius, Artistocratic form of rule prevails, where artists are the leaders of the society.
The king’s palace is not golden palace, but its golden principals make it a kingdom apart .Puissant King Libertius is witty, intellectual, his sharp mind is his crown, his pen his sword, his sarcasm his weapon and his mighty laughter is the great assault.
On one fine morning, the king wakes with the rabblerousing sounds outside the palace. He suddenly gets up and asks his court man: “what happened, how this peace full morning is disturbed with noise”?
The court man replies “your majesty, these are group of writers up[set with religion called ‘Hinduism’, whose nonsense propagandists have insulted Wendy Doniger’s book.”
The king smiles and says “get the book, I will read it, and get me other details, book reviews of the book. Ask both the groups top come in the courtroom at sharp 12:00 noon .i shall take the harshest possible decision against the religion that troubled the writers of my region.”
At sharp 12:00 noon proceedings began in the courtroom
One of the writers stand up and says: “your majesty, this case is about Wendy Doniger’s book “The Hindus: An Alternative History”. The religion has been going bad mouth about the book. Thus has to be tried under the section 295(A) of Indiana Penal Code; the section reads
“A deliberate and malicious religion intended to harm outrage the writers’ feeling or any class of scholar by insulting its writing or artistic beliefs .whichever with deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the scholarly feelings of any class of writers of Indiana by texts, theories, customs, fatwas or by insults or attempts to insult the writers/artists or the artistic/scholarly beliefs of the class shall be punished with imprisonment ,may be pulped or destroyed or both.”
“This religion is very dangerous for the existence of the creativity”, continues the writer.
Then the religion representative Dinanath Batra of right wing and shkksha bachao Andolan Samiti refutes “your majesty! This book is outrageous and demeans our culture”.
The king libertius questions this representative “the book was published back in 2009, after 5 years you come to know that this book offends your religion”
After this the courtroom echoes with witty ripostes
The mischievous voice says “I do not understand why these right wing people fly on their wrong wing, and his andolan should be renamed “Asikhsa Failao anndolan samiti”
Another voice scoffs “these people are so slow readers took 5 years to reads 600 pages”
Someone in the last row laughs and says “may be because 2014 will see elections in other territories, to catch saffron votes, these all are playing stupid tricks. Those who do not read, get offend the most.”
“Silence please” says the king,”Defenders may continue their arguments.”
“Your majesty, this writer wrote poor piece on our religion, she defames our gods and goddess .she is sex hungry, according to her our gods had only sex in their minds.” says the religion leader.
The king smiles and says “she is sex hungry!! So why are you getting sex angry. For years only men have been sex hungry. What’s big deal in that .I think as far as I am concerned she acts more of a sex enthusiast. Also your own khajrahon temples are epitome of erotica.
Then another religion representative gets up and says “your majesty! This would pollute the minds of the youngsters and create disbelief in their religion”.
The writer counter points out “what an antithetical drama they have created, their own self styled god men rape their followers in name of sex salvation. Is that not enough to create disbelief in the religion?”
“Oooooooooooo” roar bursts in the courtroom
Religion leaders are not ready to take defeat they counter argue gain “your majesty!! Wendy Doniger givers poor historical facts that proves she writes to distort history”.
This time writers get enraged and one of them says “yours is already a distorted history. Your own illusionary PM candidate gives distorted historical figures, when he says Takshila is in Bihar. Nehru and Patel never were friends.
“Silence” uproars the king. “Enough debate, now it’s time to deliver the justice”, continues the king.
“By keeping in view all the arguments and counter arguments, with respect to following sections of Indiana Penal Codes section 295,295(A) and section 153(B).I have reached to the conclusion. This religion has harmed the book and brought disgrace to the author. This religion is too fragile and volatile that it cannot stand its alternative history .it’s like male ego, too boastful and unnecessary. Under this king of tutelage from these leaders there are chances that it may even perish in future.
In the kingdom of Indiana nothing that can stand art attack of pen, paint brush, ideas is better to be pulped.
I order that this religion should be withdrawn from the market and its allied stuff should be pulped”
The king Libertius ends the judgment epigrammatically
“In Indiana art is our religion
Wit is custom
Humor is prayer
Library is Mecca
Artistic journey a pilgrimage
Flourishing art is our way to salvation”

Death of reason and logic:Age of Post-Truth

"We, as a free people", wrote late Serbain American playwright Steve Teisch "have freely decided that we want to live in some post-truth world" in an essay in the Nation magazine in 1992. The essay was in the context of the Iran -Contra scandal and the Persian Gulf War. The author would not have even the faintest idea that almost twenty-five years later Oxford dictionary, on November 12, 2016 will make ‘post-truth' the word of the year. 'Post' here doesn't mean ‘after' but suggests to the time when truth becomes insignificant and irrelevant. Thanks to Brexit and the results of US Presidential elections –this failed media prophets and others in the field of psephology. However, had Oxford University paid heed to the India around and from 2014, the word Post-truth would have found its place a few years ago only! In 2014, Media machinery projected a man who hitherto was nowhere in the picture, as the "leader", the country needed on it...

Why history lessons were boring in schools?

We were not taught (told) history as it was. History lessons dealt with dates and events only, history was always about kings, wars, victories and so called larger than life things. We were just told who ruled us,for how long.We never came to know about common man's life, may be it was not worth writing or documenting(it is still not worth it,only politicians make news). History books never had chapters of North East India and its contrib ution to Indian freedom struggle.Conflict regions' making and history was never made available rather they were just called resource abundant regions. Rise of right wing (radicalisation)doesn't find mention either. History books have been agents of lies and deception. History writing is often used as tool by state to deceive it's citizens,so that the truth and facts never come out. Whether it's America,India or Pakistan, their school history lessons are self congratulatory. Currently state is busy in bringing 'In...

Nightingale got no prize at the poultry show

Einstien,Twain,Edison were born out of class, before the text proceeds , I would like to say here 'class' doesn’t mean the structure with four walls, one door, two windows, one teacher, books and the pack of chained students. Here class is the niche of brilliance, freedom, discovery, imagination and invention. I wish to have education system that forges humans with brain and not machines with grades. As a student .I always wondered, how one can go about saying two plus two equals to four? Without anyone questioning why? Just because our course book said so. Why in history "dates and events” were asked? When no one taught us the resemblance to the days which we live in. Why for learning anything new, we need old books instead of new ideas? Why make notes in class, when the brain is blank and ink in copy left no hammer on thinking? Why teachers ask us to learn by heart, while it is the mind that is required to do so.? Even Winston Churchill had a dig at his tea...
